Review:

This was an interesting ending to a little bit of a mixed bag of a trilogy for me.

There is no doubt for me that Bree Barton tackles difficult topics in a very understanding and sympathetic way though I have to admit some of the feminism involved felt very forced at times. I still find Pilar to be my favourite character and I would have liked maybe a little more follow up with her at the end, but her character development I enjoyed a lot. Mia has always been a bit hit and miss for me and this book was no different, she very much sends out mixed signals and I still don't really get her even after finishing the book. Quin also seems to change character purely because the story needed him to, which was a shame as I enjoyed him for the majority of book 1 and 2. The ending could perhaps be described as anticlimactic but its not an action packed trilogy, it's always been a somewhat quieter story focusing on characters and personal journeys.

I would still recommend this book, especially if you have already invested the time in the previous books but it is definitely more character driven than plot driven.

I gave this book 3.5 out of 5 stars.
