Review #127 - Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J Maas

Details:

Title: Kingdom of Ash
Author: Sarah J Maas
Publisher: Bloomsbury
ISBN 13: 978-1408872918

Synopsis:

Aelin Galathynius's journey from slave to assassin to queen reaches its heart-rending finale as war erupts across her world .

She has risked everything to save her people - but at a tremendous cost. Locked in an iron coffin by the Queen of the Fae, Aelin must draw upon her fiery will to endure the months of torture inflicted upon her. The knowledge that yielding to Maeve will doom those she loves keeps her from breaking, but her resolve is unravelling with each passing day.

With Aelin imprisoned, Aedion and Lysandra are the last line of defence keeping Terrasen from utter destruction. But even the many allies they've gathered to battle Erawan's hordes might not be enough to save the kingdom. Scattered throughout the continent and racing against time, Chaol, Manon, and Dorian must forge their own paths to meet their destinies. And across the sea Rowan hunts to find his captured wife and queen - before she is lost to him.

Some bonds will deepen and others be severed forever, but as the threads of fate weave together at last, all must fight if they are to find salvation - and a better world.
Review (Possible spoilers ahead):
I knew I would have mixed feelings about this book, and I did. On the one hand I am sad it's over and that there will be no more stories with these characters but on the other hand I wanted a little more from it.

For me this book had some outstanding moments in it, mainly around Manon and the thirteen. Lysandra and Elide were also great and I adored seeing Chaol and Yrene again - especially seeing them reunited with the others.

But there was also some downsides including overuse of the term mate, the pairing off of practically everybody and far too quick forgiveness for some characters. Aelin also managed to really annoy me as she has done for the last couple of books - but I did come to like Rowan more so I guess that is a plus too.

I did cry a couple of times but after ACOWAR I expected there to not be too many consequences for the main group of characters and I was not proved wrong.

I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars.
