January 2017 - Fairyloot Unboxing

So today I received the January 2017 FairyLoot box which I have been excitedly waiting for ever since I was able to order one. (What follows will contain spoilers so please do not read if you don't want to know what is in the box)

FairyLoot is a monthly book subscription box mainly focusing on fantasy YA and YA crossovers. Each month you receive a new release book, mostly hardback and 4-6 bookish items which fit in with the theme.

The theme this month was Mystery and Mischief

The first thing I saw upon opening the box was the spoiler card (On the reverse is a list of what the items in the box are and where they all came from)

After that there was a little Harry Potter Vinyl Figure box (Each box had either a Harry Potter or Game of Thrones figure in it) and when I opened up mine I found I had Hedwig, which I was very pleased with.

After that the next thing I saw was a candle made by Meraki candles and created exclusively for FairyLoot, it was related to the book for this month and had been named 'Come back yesterday' by the author of the book.

Next up was a rose necklace designed by Oh Panda Eyes and an Alice in Wonderland bookmark by Read at Midnight. The necklace has a beautiful clasp as well as the charm and the bookmark is thick and strong.

This box had two books in it the first being How to think like Sherlock which looks like fun and then a cushion cover with a quote from The Night Circus on it. I admit I haven't read the Night Circus but I really like the quote.

Lastly before we get to the book there were some little bonus items including a really nice Passenger/Wayfarer notebook, an Alchemists of Loom bookmark and a Jackaby postcard.

And now for the main event. The book this month was Caraval by Stephanie Garber, which is out on 31st January so we got it early too! 

Synopsis:

When the sisters' long-awaited invitations to Caraval finally arrive, it seems their dreams have come true. But no sooner have they arrived than Tella vanishes, kidnapped by the show's mastermind organiser, Legend.

Scarlett has been told that everything that happens during Caraval is only an elaborate performance. But nonetheless she quickly becomes enmeshed in a dangerous game of love, magic and heartbreak. And real or not, she must find Tella before the game is over, and her sister disappears forever.

The book was a special edition hardback and underneath the dust jacket was a gold foil rose (there were four possible designs - a rose, a dress, a clock and a circus tent). Also included was a signed bookplate, a bookmark, a postcard and a letter from the author on the back of a map of the world. I loved this as I really really like it when maps are included in  or with books.

Overall I really loved this box, the book is absolutely beautiful and the items are well chosen and diverse. I cannot wait to start the book and then see what delights await in the February box.
