Lyra wouldn't have chosen to travel fifty years into the future, leaving behind all of her friends and uprooting her life but she doesn't get a say. It isn't all bad though, she finds a few things to keep her occupied on the journey and when they arrive at their destination things don't quite go as planned and Lyra might just find something she never expected to.
Lyra was a very strong, resilient yet flawed character which made her more believable. I really enjoyed her intelligence and her cockiness too especially when interacting with Niall. Niall I also enjoyed, it took me longer to warm up to him but once we found out a little more about him I appreciated his character more. The plot was really smart and I actually didn't guess anything until it was revealed to Lyra, as someone who usually manages to guess twists I was very impressed by this. The overarching plot is interesting too and I am curious to see how this develops in the next book.
Overall I found this book to be a really clever yet accessible scifi story with strong characters and intelligent storyline. Definitely looking forward to the next one after the way this ended too!
