October 2019 Wrap Up

In October 2019 I managed to read a total of 13 books.

I didn't get as much read as I wanted to but overall I read a lot of good books so I was pleased. Much better than how I felt last month.

Audiobooks -

The Magic Misfits: The Minor Third by Neil Patrick Harris
Narrated by Trey Hall
Length - 5h 18m
Star rating - 4 stars

I liked this volume but it was a little frustrating how it ended. There were some nice themes throughout but I felt some things could have been explored more. I do still love the characters though and think Neil Patrick Harris has a great knack for telling a story.

DEV1AT3 by Jay Kristoff
Narrated by Erin Spencer
Length - 11h 57m
Star rating - 4 stars

I have to admit that Lifel1k3 didn't grab me as much as Jay's other books have but I wanted to continue the series so I tried the audio for this one and OMG! I loved it! I felt so much more while listening to it and really loved the Mad Max post apocalyptic feel to it. And that cliffhanger! Amazing!

Killing Eve: Codename Villanelle by Luke Jennings
Narrated by Laura Kirman
Length - 6h 48m
Star rating - 4 stars

Having watched the tv series I wasn't sure if I would find the book repetative or not but it was really good. There were a number of differences which kept it fresh and interesting. The narrator was a great choice and did accents well.

Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff
Length - 512 pages
Star Rating - 5 stars

I had so much trepidation going into this book and it was all reasonable since Jay Kristoff is an evil genius who loves destroying his readers. I found the last book to be very bittersweet and while I did cry and my heart was left in tatters I was also happy with the way it ended. Such an incredible story and one I have loved reading.

Unleashed by Any McCulloch
Length - 352 pages
Star Rating - 4.5 stars

I very much enjoyed this sequel. I liked Jinxed a lot when I read it last year, especially the last 100 or so pages and this one keeps up that pace almost all the way through. I like the friendships Lacey has and how they all work together. One big thing was a little obvious to me and took the characters themselves a long time to work out but it didn't stop me enjoying the book at all.

Crownbreaker by Sebastien de Castell
Length - 528 pages
Star Rating - 5 stars

Sebastien de Castell is without a doubt one of my all time favourite authors and the Spellslinger series has been a delight to read. Kellen, Reichis and Ferius are such beloved characters that I was sad to say goodbye but I am happy to say it really was a perfect ending. Things right from book one were pulled together and is was a true delight.

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard
Length - 484 pages
Star Rating - 3.5 stars

This took me a while to get into, mainly because we were thrust into the world without much insight and it left me very confused. A lot of the confusion remained but the character focus helped me enjoy it more by the end. Iseult and the Bloodwitch got me wanting to read more.

Dead Voices by Katherine Arden
Length - 256 pages
Star Rating - 4.5 stars

These Divided Shores by Sara Raasch
Length - 560 pages
Star Rating - 4.5 stars

I very much enjoyed this sequel. All the characters were just as wonderful as the first book and the plot moved forward well. There were twists and turns and while they weren't all a surprise they were enjoyable. The plot resolution towards the end was perhaps slightly quick but it still made sense and I was pleased overall.

Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco
Length - 453 pages
Star Rating - 5 stars

It is so bittersweet to see this series end, I have loved this series a lot but I wasn't disappointed by the ending. In fact I would say it was the perfect ending. I adore Audrey Rose and Thomas and I like how they work so well together without losing who they are as individuals. It's the perfect partnership in my view. Simply wonderful.

Graphic Novels  -

Tomb Raider: Lost Horizons by Dan Jurgens
Length - 96 pages
Star Rating - 4 stars

This was a fun graphic novel, I love the Tomb Raider video games and the movies and this didn't disappoint. It was good fun and I liked the art style a lot too.
