Review:
Tova has lived with the Svell since she was rescued from the sea as a child but she has always been an outcast, never truly accepted. Tova is a truthtongue, she is able to cast rune stones and tell the future. But when it isn't what the Svell want to hear it sets of a series of actions which will have consequences for everybody. Can Tova stop it or are some things simply meant to happen?
Tova is an interesting character as she desperately wants a home but has felt like an outcast thanks to the mistrust of the clan who saved her. She definitely develops throughout the story and I liked her more as the book went on. She definitely felt too passive at the start though perhaps that was to be expected due to the circumstances she was in. Halvard was our other point of view and it was really nice to have that connection to the already released Sky in the Deep. I appreciated the dual perspective as it allowed us to see what was going on with the other clans and not just the Svell. I also enjoyed the flashback chapters as I felt they were positioned at exactly the right points to give us more information.
Overall I did enjoy this book though perhaps not quite as much as Sky in the Deep. It was a quick read though and things really picked up in the last third of the book. Adrienne Young has a really strong writing style which I like a lot.
