September Wrap Up

In September 2019 I managed to read a total of 8 books.

It wasn't the best reading month for me at all and the first time I have been in single digits this year, but I had a lot happening so hopefully October will be better.

Audiobooks -

Becoming by Michelle Obama
Narrated by Michelle Obama
Length - 19h 03m
Star rating - 4.5 stars

As a rare non-fiction reader I definitely didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did but Michelle Obama's warmth and energy comes through so much. She doesn't shy away from anything and is very open and honest. I loved that she shared her opinions and memories as much as she did. Honestly I think this book would be good for anybody.

Sea Witch Rising by Sarah Henning
Narrated by Billie Fulford-Brown & Elizabeth Knoweldon
Length - 9h 39m
Star rating - 4 stars

I enjoyed Sea Witch but was a little sceptical when this was announced. Happily I didn't need to be, it worked really well as a continuation of the first book rather than a straight Little Mermaid retelling. I liked how the book was split between Runa and Evie and their voices felt unique to them and both stories were compelling.

Novels  -

The Girl the Sea Gave Back by Adrienne Young
Length - 352 pages
Star Rating - 4 stars

Review here

Tunnel of Bones by VE Schwab
Length - 272 pages
Star Rating - 4 stars

This was a great sequel, it was well paced and I loved both Cass and Jacob. The little bits of interaction we get with Lara were fun and Jacob's storyline was really good and I am excited to see how that develops in future books. I also can't wait to see how the overall storyline develops too as we are getting a lot more intrigue there now.

Shadow and Flame by Mindee Arnett
Length - 496 pages
Star Rating - 3 stars

I really wanted to like this as I adored Onyx and Ivory but it just fell flat for me. The characters that I loved in the first book didn't feel the same and Kate especially grated on my nerves. A disappointing read and such a shame as it had been an anticipated read.

Into the crooked place by Alexandra Christo
Length - 496 pages
Star Rating - 4.5 stars

Review to come on official release date.

The Merciful Crow by Margaret Owen
Length - 384 pages
Star Rating - 4.5 stars

Check out my review

Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco
Length - 437 pages
Star Rating - 4 stars

I love Audrey Rose and Thomas so much, I've really enjoyed these books and while I definitely liked the mystery in this one the forced love triangle rather annoyed me. Audrey felt very 'off' for a lot of the book and her inner thoughts were frustrating. I felt so sorry for Thomas. But putting that aspect aside I did like reading it and am looking forward to the final book.
