March Unboxing - Fairyloot

So today I am going to be unboxing the March 2017 FairyLoot box, this box was Fairyloot's 1 year anniversary box and as such the box itself was purple. (What follows will contain spoilers so please do not read if you don't want to know what is in the box)

FairyLoot is a monthly book subscription box mainly focusing on fantasy YA and YA crossovers. Each month you receive a new release book, mostly hardback and 4-6 bookish items which fit in with the theme.

The theme this month was Myths and Monsters. (Spoiler filled post under the cut)

The first thing I saw upon opening the box as always was the spoiler card (On the reverse is a list of what the items in the box are and where they all came from)

The first item I found in the box was a soy wax candle by Geeky Clean, it was called Nephilim and had a scent of Black Cherry and Lime. It honestly smelled so lovely and made me want to eat it. It was quite shallow for a candle but it was nice.

Next there was a box of battery operated unicorn fairylights from Mustard. While these were cute they felt a little childish and not really something I will use.

The next items were a small pocket mirror with a stylized mermaid design by The Book Otter and a little dragon and phoenix magnetic bookmark set by Bonitismo. The bookmarks were adorable, the designs were lovely and I can't wait to use them. The mirror was okay, I wasn't overly keen on the design of the mermaid and I don't really use pocket mirrors at all.
.

The last item in the box (apart from the book of course) was a beautiful dragonscale scarf with the Fairyloot logo on it by GivArt. This was a lovely quality and very soft, I cannot wait to wear it.

The book this month was Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor, which was released on March 28th.

Synopsis:

The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself, in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance to lose his dream forever.

What happened in Weep two hundred years ago to cut it off from the rest of the world? What exactly did the Godslayer slay that went by the name of god? And what is the mysterious problem he now seeks help in solving?

The answers await in Weep, but so do more mysteries - including the blue-skinned goddess who appears in Lazlo's dreams. How did he dream her before he knew she existed? And if all the gods are dead, why does she seem so real?

Also included was a letter from the author and a postcard with 1 of 3 designs on it. The book had a printed signature inside along with drawings and the page edges had been sprayed blue.

This was a nice box and there is no denying it is a beautiful copy of the book, however I cannot help feeling that the book was the complete focal point of this box. Maybe I've been spoilt from the previous boxes but considering this was the anniversary box I felt it was a little underwhelming. I liked the candle, the scarf and the bookmarks but the other items just felt like filler and a little lack luster.

I am looking forward to the next box and am hoping for more things which will interest me and my personal tastes.

(All thoughts and feelings are purely my own and I do not in any way wish to detract from the incredible job the team behind FairyLoot do)
