This is the unboxing of the February 2018 FairyLoot box. (What follows will contain spoilers so please do not read if you don't want to know what is in the box)
FairyLoot is a monthly book subscription box mainly focusing on fantasy YA and YA crossovers. Each month you receive a new release book, mostly hardback and 4-6 bookish items which fit in with the theme.
The theme this month was Twisted Tales
(Spoiler filled post under the cut)
The artwork on the spoiler card definitely showed the theme clearly and I loved the atmosphere of it.
The first item I found was a mug with a mash up of different fairy tales on it, this included the gingerbread house, red riding hood and rapunzel's tower. It is a lovely mug and the details are incredible.
Next there was a candle called The Hinterland (related to the book) which smelt lovely and deep. Then I found a pair of purple socks with witches hats and houses on. The socks are really comfortable and I love wearing them.
Next up there was a Little Red Rising Hood wooden bookmark and some apple scented Poisonous bath salts.
The book this month was The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert which was signed directly by the author and included an author letter.
Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice's life on the road, always a step ahead of the strange bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice's grandmother, the reclusive author of a book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate - the Hazel Wood - Alice learns how bad her luck can really get. Her mother is stolen away - by a figure who claims to come from the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother's stories are set. Alice's only lead is the message her mother left behind: STAY AWAY FROM THE HAZEL WOOD.
To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother's tales began . . .
I thought this box was okay, I really liked the mug and socks and of course candles are always welcome but I admit I don't tend to get much use from bath salts (I don't have a bath) and I do have a ton of bookmarks. I also started an arc of the book last year and put it down as I wasn't keen. But the items I did like are very good and will be put to use.
