Bea wants to be much more than the well behaved woman her parents want her to be. After ruining what her parents were hoping would be a matchmaking dinner Bea is sent to stay with her Uncle in Italy in the hope that it will help straighten her out. However once there she is thrown into a world of art and freedom. Will Bea find love for the summer or even more importantly, will she discover herself?
Bea is a really honest and engaging character who is curious and bright while still being a little naive. Ben was cocky and determined and it was nice to see him open up as the book went on. I definitely had an enjoyable time reading their banter, the author caught the quick witted back and forth between them well and it felt similar to their quarrels in Shakespeares Much Ado About Nothing. The backdrop of the beginnings of the war was definitely an interesting one as was the opinions expressed by different groups of people in the story.
Overall this was a pleasure to read. A very good historical fiction which related well to the original story which inspired it.
