This is the unboxing of the October 2017 FairyLoot box. (What follows will contain spoilers so please do not read if you don't want to know what is in the box)
FairyLoot is a monthly book subscription box mainly focusing on fantasy YA and YA crossovers. Each month you receive a new release book, mostly hardback and 4-6 bookish items which fit in with the theme.
The theme this month was Villainous
(Spoiler filled post under the cut)
The artwork on the spoiler card as always was incredible and the Disney green on it definitely gave me October vibes.
The first items I found in the box was a Meraki Candle called Maleficent (the lid had been jammed on but eventually I managed to open it) the scent was gorgeous and I cannot wait to light it. There was also a cute dark mark pin badge.
Next there was a coaster designed by Evie Seo and a compact mirror designed by Little Inkling designs with a quote from The Young Elites on it. I have to admit I am not keen on the compact mirrors at all as I have little use for them and this is the second one in a Fairyloot box this year.
Next up there was a print by Evie Seo and a print advertising a Night of Cake and Puppets.
Lastly was a Fairyloot exclusive copy of Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo along with a set of postcards related to the book.
The book this month was Forest of a Thousand Lanterns by Julie C. Dao.
Synopsis:
Eighteen-year-old Xifeng is beautiful. The stars say she is destined for greatness, that she is meant to be Empress of Feng Lu. But only if she embraces the darkness within her.
Growing up as a peasant in a forgotten village on the edge of the map, Xifeng longs to fulfill the destiny promised to her by her cruel aunt, the witch Guma, who has read the cards and seen glimmers of Xifeng's majestic future. But is the price of the throne too high? Because in order to achieve greatness, she must spurn the young man who loves her and exploit the callous magic that runs through her veins--sorcery fueled by eating the hearts of the recently killed. For the god who has sent her on this journey will not be satisfied until his power is absolute.
Also included was a letter from the author and a signed bookplate.
I felt a little let down by this box especially since the last couple of boxes have been really strong. I know we had an extra book included in this box and I think that was the focus of the box. I have to admit I am definitely hoping not to see another compact mirror in a box for a while as I have little use for them.
