Review #67 - Because you love to hate me by Various

Details:

Title:
Because you love to hate me
Author: Various (anthology)
Publisher: Bloomsbury Childrens
ISBN 13: 978-1408882764

Synopsis:

In this unique YA anthology, thirteen acclaimed, bestselling authors team up with thirteen influential BookTubers to reimagine fairy tales from the oft-misunderstood villains' points of view.
These fractured, unconventional spins on classics like "Medusa," Sherlock Holmes, and "Jack and the Beanstalk" provide a behind-the-curtain look at villains' acts of vengeance, defiance, and rage--and the pain, heartbreak, and sorrow that spurned them on. No fairy tale will ever seem quite the same again!
Review:

I found this book to be okay. The stories were interesting on the whole though some definitely stood out as better than the rest (for me personally these were the ones by Samantha Shannon and VE Schwab). Considering it was about villains I found some of the stories lacked the villainous element and weren't as evil as I expected, this in itself was based on the interpretation of the word villain I guess. I have to admit I wasn't a fan of the layout of the book, I think seeing the prompts before the stories would have been better and honestly I skipped a lot of the booktuber bits as I didn't see the need for them. I think the authors could have been given more words for their stories than include these.

I gave this book 3 out of 5 stars.
