Leafer Box Unboxing October 2017

So today I have another Leafer unboxing for you all! I am going to be unboxing the October 2017 double Leafer box which they kindly put together for me because I liked the sound of the Historical and Fantasy boxes The theme for Historical was 'Orleans' while the theme for fantasy was 'Nature's Wrath'. (What follows will contain spoilers so please do not read if you don't want to know what is in the box)

Leafer box is a UK monthly book subscription box focused on providing good reading material to avid readers around the world.

The first item I saw in the box was a large bar of Galaxy chocolate which happens to be a favourite of mine so I was very pleased with this (as this is a combo box there is only one chocolate snack - which is very good since I am trying to lose weight)

Next up there were two necklaces - one which had a quote on it which said 'Faith can move mountains' which I really love and another which had a really cute cloud and lightning bolt on it.

Then there was a little pack of loose leaf vanilla earl grey tea, which I am very much looking forward to trying and a really beautiful branch shaped hair slide.

The last two items were a pack of sealing wax stickers which is such a cool idea and I can't wait to use them along with a gorgeous smelling wax melt.

The first book this month for the Historical aspect of the box was The Maid by Kimberly Cutter.

Synopsis:

It is the early part of the fifteenth century and the Hundred Years War rages on. The French city of Orleans is under siege, English soldiers tear through the countryside wreaking destruction on all who cross their path, and Charles VII, the uncrowned king, has neither the strength nor the will to rally his army. And in the quiet of her parents' garden in Domremy, a twelve-year-old peasant girl, Jehanne, hears a voice that will change her life - and the course of European history.
The tale of Jehanne d'Arc, the saint and warrior who believed she had been chosen by God to save France, and who led an army of 10,000 soldiers against the English, has captivated our imagination for centuries. But the story of Jehanne - the girl - whose sister was murdered by the English, who sought an escape from her violent father and a forced marriage, who taught herself to ride, and fight, and lead, and who somehow found the courage and tenacity to convince first one, then two, then tens, then thousands to follow her, is at once thrilling, unexpected and heart-breaking.

I love the sound of this book. I adore Joan of Arc and stories about her so I am very much looking forward to this one.

The next book this month was the Fantasy one and that was The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin.

Synopsis:

IT STARTS WITH THE GREAT RED RIFT across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun.
IT STARTS WITH DEATH, with a murdered son and a missing daughter.
IT STARTS WITH BETRAYAL, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester.

This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

I have seen this book around but never picked it up so I am looking forward to doing some - it is now on my tbr shelves.

I really liked this combo box and the brains behind Leafer Box are really lovely and accommodating. I highly recommend giving them a try - there's even a discount code you can use if you check out my friend Moon's instagram (@moon_kestrel) :)
